This year marks 25 years since MATTER was launched—not as a campaign or a company, but as a response to a deeper conviction.
As we look back on the moments, the milestones, and the movement that’s grown over the past two and a half decades, we’re starting where it all began: with a belief. A belief that every life holds value. That every idea has potential. And that faith, when moved to action, can change the world.
This is the foundation MATTER was built on. And it’s still launching everything we do.
You Matter: The Belief that Launched MATTER
Twenty-five years ago, Dennis and Megan Doyle looked at the world around them — its beauty, its brokenness, and its endless possibility — and asked a simple question:
What if we lived like everyone’s life truly mattered?
As people of deep Christian faith, they believed that every person is created in the image of God, with infinite worth and potential. But they also saw the hard truth — that too many people were forgotten, left without access to basic opportunities that allow dignity to flourish.
Their faith compelled them to act. To move love from words to action.
And so, MATTER was born — out of faith, out of love, and out of the unwavering belief that every person matters to God and therefore should matter to us.
Faith in Action
Dennis and Megan didn’t set out to build an organization. They set out to answer God’s call to love their neighbor in practical, meaningful ways — to see people not as problems to be solved, but as partners with potential.
They believed that God has placed within every person the ability to impact their community for good. Sometimes people just need a door to open, a resource to unlock that potential.
Over the years, MATTER has become that door — a conduit for love in action, resourcing people, families, and communities to rise.
From feeding the hungry to delivering life-saving medical supplies – from creating opportunities for students and families to empowering volunteers and visionaries, MATTER has always stood on this foundation:
You matter. Your life matters to God, and your dreams matter to us.
Belief at the Foundation
Our founders’ faith is still the heartbeat of MATTER today, it is the inspiration for why we do what we do. We believe that when we honor the worth of every person, we reflect God’s love in the world.
We believe that hope grows when people know they are seen, valued, and believed in.
We believe that faith is more than belief — it is action.
As we look back on 25 years, and forward to what’s next, we remain rooted in this truth: You matter. Your ideas and actions can change the world. Believe it. We do.
God is still at work in this world, using ordinary people willing to say yes to loving others well.
So, here’s to the next 25 years — of showing up, loving boldly, and believing in the God-given worth of every person we meet.
