Xavier Rhodes wasn’t the only Viking to break a record at US Bank stadium Sunday. Before our boys in purple and gold defeated the Cardinals, Vikings fans united on the Commons outside US Bank Stadium to make a difference in their community, shattering a MATTERbox record!

Vikings fans channeled their inner Norseman, braving the cold to pack a MATTERbox of healthy, shelf-stable food that will provide meals to those in need this Thanksgiving season, and break the 1,385 MATTERbox record, all before 12:00 kick-off.

Bundled in purple and gold, fans kept warm dancing their way through the MATTERbox assembly lines. Filling each box with 9 shelf-stable food items to the beat of the Vikings Commons DJ. Topping off each box with the final ingredient, a nutrition education & recipes pamphlet, before taping their completed MATTERbox shut!

In the heat of all the MATTERbox action were Vikings Legends Rufus Bess, Ricky Young & Ezra Toaulo, packing MATTERboxes & snapping photos with fans to the iconic backdrop of the US Bank Stadium. Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders  & SKOL line even stopped by to pack a MATTERbox before the game & cheer on the Viking Fans to their goal! With every MATTERbox packed, bringing fans one step closer crushing the MATTERbox record.

By the time noon hit the clock – Together Vikings fans had SHATTERED the MATTERbox record packing a total of 1,542 MATTERboxes, that will provide 24,672 healthy meals in our community this Thanksgiving.

MATTERboxes packed prior to the November 20th game to be distributed Tuesday, November 22nd to six Salvation Army locations in Minneapolis & St. Paul by; Matter, Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders, Vikings Legends & Vikings Women.
