A Year-End Message from MATTER’s President, Quenton Marty

Dear Friends,

As we come to the end of 2021 and look ahead to the year to come, I want to share a few things that are on my heart.

First of all, thank you. Because of your generous support this year, MATTER has been able to collaborate with our partners to impact more than 2.5 million people here in the United States and around the world.

As I write this, I’m thinking about the little boy in Haiti who suffered a serious head injury and was carried by his father four hours to the nearest clinic that thankfully had the supplies to treat his injuries. His life was saved thanks to your support of MATTER. I’m also thinking about the hundreds of children in Minnesota, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Haiti, Uganda, and Afghanistan, who are receiving a world-class education in coding and computer science in our twelve amazing MATTER Innovation Hubs made possible by your support. As well, the families across this country who have healthy food this holiday season from our MATTERbox meal kits that you helped provide. MATTER has impacted these lives and so many more because of your generosity.

Second, I’m very excited to share a new direction for MATTER. Over the last two years, we recognized that our sustainability as an organization was paramount if we were to help people launch projects that improve communities for years to come. This year, we formed a social enterprise team tasked with finding ways to generate revenue outside of fundraising to cover MATTER’s operating expenses with the long-term goal of using 100% of donor dollars toward projects and initiatives. We were unsure if this new strategy was feasible, but this past year proved far more successful than we ever could have imagined. So much so, in fact, that we recently recast an exciting new vision for MATTER. Beginning in 2022, our vision is to reinvent a self-sustaining model of charity that inspires people to action for good. I truly believe this will revolutionize how MATTER operates and will open doors for exponential impact in lives locally and around the world.

Lastly, when we say ‘you matter’ we mean it. We sincerely believe your ideas and actions can change the world. Looking at how much we accomplished together in 2021, your ideas and actions are changing the world right now!

As we look ahead to 2022, would you consider continuing to support us by making a donation today? With your ongoing support, we can continue changing the world one project, one community, one life at a time. That means more healthy meals for hungry families. More hospitals and clinics receiving medical supplies to save lives. More MATTER Innovation Hubs educating and inspiring children. More nutrition gardens healing hospital patients, and more Chaya trees to nourish and empower communities.

More people knowing that they matter.

From all of us here at MATTER, we wish you a very happy holiday season and a healthy new year!

With gratitude,

Quenton Marty
